Livingstone Shire

Livingstone Shire is located in Central Queensland, about 600 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD, and about 40 kilometres north-east of the Rockhampton CBD. The Shire encompasses a total land area of about 11,800 square kilometres, including national parks, state forests, coastline, islands and beaches.

Five Rocks is the northernmost of the more accessible beaches (from Yeppoon) and is occasionally visited by local surfers looking for a beach break, when the Trades are blowing or during occasional swell conditions.

Swain Reefs National Park was gazetted to protect the most remote sand cays on the Great Barrier Reef and provide protection for feeding, resting and breeding seabirds and turtles.

The Keppel Islands located just off Yeppoon are a great place for divers to explore, but this area also has some wonderful snorkelling sites. Located at the southwest corner of Great Keppel Island, Shelving Beach can be a little difficult to reach without a boat, but many visitors walk the bush track to explore this secluded spot.
