Central Coast is one of the most picturesque municipal areas in Tasmania and features both urban and rural areas. Eighty-five percent of the area’s population live along the coastal strip. The principal townships are Ulverstone and Penguin, with smaller townships at Forth, Gawler, Heybridge, Leith, Sulphur Creek and Turners Beach. Central Coast is at the forefront in agricultural production, well known for its crops of poppies, pyrethrum, peas, potatoes and onions, as well as timber production and livestock enterprises.

Enjoy the stunning cave formations, rich colours and sparkling crystals. Gunns Plains Cave is in the Gunns Plains State Reserve, approximately 30 kilometres south of Ulverstone in northwest Tasmania. This ten hectare area was one of the earliest cave reserves in Tasmania, being proclaimed a State Reserve in 1918.
Black Bluff Mt sits prominently above the river valley of Loongana it can carry a lot of snow through winter and is always the first mountain visible with snow from the North West coast. The track is part of the Penguin to Cradle Trail and starts at the Leven River, and winds upwards through Forest, Heath, a Glacial Lake and Alpine Plateau. It is a stunning and accessible walk that cover many terrains and plant communities in one day.
