Surf Coast Shire

Surf Coast Shire has been recognised as one of Victoria’s fastest growing municipalities for more than a decade. The combination of lifestyle and proximity to Melbourne has seen the permanent population grow from 20,872 in 2001 to an estimated 29,346 in 2016. This figure is expected to exceed 30,000 during 2017 and forecast to reach 43,763 by 2036. Our residents enjoy a high quality lifestyle combining coastal, bushland and rural elements. The natural environment also adds to the shire’s appeal as a holiday, tourist and business destination. The Great Ocean Road, Bells Beach and the Great Otway National Park feature among Surf Coast’s many tourism assets.

Phantom Falls is a 3.4 kilometer lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Lorne, Victoria, Australia that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips.
One of the most popular waterfalls in the Otways, the Erskine Falls plunges 30 metres into the lush tree-fern gully of the Erskine River. Feel the fine mist from the cascading water as you take in the views from one of two lookouts. The upper lookout is an easy five-minute walk from the car park. The lower lookout is a more strenuous walk, down some 240 steps to the base of the falls. The reward? A view of one of the highest drops in the region.
Teddy’s Lookout gives almost a birds eye view of the Great Ocean Road that crosses the St George River and wraps around the Lorne Scenic Beach. The lookout is 113 metres above sea level in the hills behind Lorne, which is around 45 kms from the start of the Great Ocean Road in Torquay. The view is so clear and uninterrupted across Bass Strait that people have even claimed to have seen the Aurora Australis, the Southern Lights from up at the lookout.
