Northern Areas

The Northern Areas Council is situated in the heartland of the Southern Flinders Ranges, approximately 200 kilometres north of Adelaide and within the traditional lands of the Ngadjuri Aboriginal people. The Council area is divided into four Wards: Belalie (4 Elected Members), Rocky River (3 Elected Members), Yackamoorundie (1 Elected Member) and Broughton (1 Elected Member). The Council covers an area of 3070km2, and has a total of 2,197km of roads of which 133km are sealed.

Bundaleer Forest, just 9km south of Jamestown, has been a picnicking destination for generations of locals. Today, it is becoming increasingly well known as a place to walk and cycle.
Laura Information Centre is a volunteer run shop in the heart of the picturesque town of Laura South Australia which has a large range of information for the area and the state.
The best-used of many tourist sites in the town is the Yackamoorundie Park, on the banks of the Broughton, designed and developed by the Yacka Progress Group in the 1980s.
