Mildura Rural

Mildura is a growing regional centre on the banks of the Murray River in north western Victoria. It includes a mixture of irrigated and dryland farming. Fruit and vegetable production are the most significant industries in Mildura. More than 80% of Victoria's grapes and much of Victoria's citrus fruit is produced in the region.

Lake Mournpall is the most likely of the Hattah lakes to contain water as it retains water for up to 7 years. Can be very hot and dry in summer, winter nights may be cold. Tracks through the park may be rough after rain or flooded. Gas fires are preferred.

Lock 11 is one of several similar structures built along the Murray to enhance navigability while weirs provided stable pools for irrigation development. Construction of the Mildura Weir and Lock 11 began in August 1923 and was completed four years later in 1927. The weir comprises 24 steel trestles, each weighing approximately 11 tonnes. The trestles can be winched from the river to allow maintenance, or to allow the safe passage of flood waters.
