Castlemaine Botanical Gardens are one of Victoria’s oldest regional botanic gardens. The gardens were gazetted on 21 February 1860. Their scale reflects Castlemaine’s prosperity during the gold rush and community desire to highlight the success of the town. The gardens are believed to be designed by the first curator, Phillip Doran who held this position for 47 years until his death in 1913.
La Larr Ba Gauwa Park is a world class mountain bike park near Harcourt in Central Victoria that was opened in March 2018. The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning managed the construction of the park’s 34km of diverse mountain bike trails which take advantage of the area's stunning views and unique rock features. The park has 11 trails that cater to riders of all abilities, including everything from a leisurely beginners’ loop to long, flowy cross-country rides and technically challenging trails featuring chutes, berms, drops, jumps and rock gardens.
